THE LAMENTS OF A GOD

This was my shrine where a strange god is planted upon
Here was a stone where oft I sat and eat oiled yams
But like a wink those times were gone;
Now men refuses to pour libations or sacrifice lambs
And we starve in the heavens of prayers
And of worships and songs.
You have refused us what matters
And burn with the tea of profanity our lungs.
The sweet savours of goats do not Plough us down
So that we may pour down our blessings on the earth.
This was a Kingdom but now it is called a town.
I was there when my father laid the foundations 'n' named it Garth;
He gave it me to be her protector, her saviour
And I fashioned great and mighty kings from her,
The whole world envied her splendour.
I built a fortress around her and committed to guarding her;
With my mighty sword we saw victories and prosperity;
Here that the smoke of worships to the heavens rose,
Here that even men were and revered in glory
Here where there was no countenance morose,
Even here has forsaken the gods of their forbears.
Now they worship an alien god by the book
Since as I recall for now some years
The boats planted this new trees they have this look,
A generation drenched in ignorance
Joining fostered hands in spilling wonderful creation.
I curse you with infertility and pestilence
I curse you with heating of the earth to bring your perdition.
