Who do we think we are
To be too confident and fearless?
That we roar angrily like a labouring lioness?
Who do we think we are
To be too full of ourselves so much that we disdain brothers?
That we thread on spikes and go harmless?
Who do we think we are?
We carcasses?
we common mosquitoes?
Who do we think we are to be called Jesus?
To be venerated as Lords over equals
And abuse the laws ancient and grey?
Who are we to walk on waters without sinking?
Who are we to walk out of a lion's den?
Who are we to comfort in a burning flame?
Is it not Divine Providence,
That we shake the bee-hive and leave not stunk,
That we caress the fangs of Hades and add to our days?
It is divine Providence that we who deserves no breathe
Stand even pompous and agile
Fooled by our energy we become ingrates.
We are too reckless and carefree
Not acknowledging Powers beyond our knowledge
That we who are nothing should be this forgetful!
Should we then, knowing we are dust and air
For greed and dark ambitions harm our kind
Acknowledging we will like the very wink of an eye pass-away?
Should we then who are but candles lit by a higher hand burn sprightly
For vanity wear our mortal layer?
Should we be so highly esteemed despite our fragile mortality?
Lord, thou who does not judge man but keepeth him by grace,
For I being judged will no value make before your eyes
Pray that your grace abound and extend to all carnal men.
For man too vain in thoughts and in living has made himself a god
And claim the libations poured to the higher spirits.
He has edified himself to the coats of the almighty.
The sons of Babel! must you build another tower to see God?
Lord, for I being David's son; sinful and remorseful
Pray still that you keep me thine!
